Commercial Catering Gas Safety Certificate (CP42)
Kitchen Compliance
Keep Your Commercial Kitchen Safe & Legal.
In a high-pressure commercial kitchen, safety is paramount. Under the Gas Safety Regulations, all catering establishments must have an annual inspection (CP42) by a specialist engineer. PropertySafety ensures your kitchen remains open, insured, and safe for your staff.
Appliances We Test
We inspect a wide range of commercial equipment, including 6-burner ranges, fryers, combi-ovens, grills, and salamanders to ensure they are burning correctly.Ventilation & Interlocks
The #1 cause of failure is the ventilation. We test that your extraction canopy is pulling enough air and that the Gas Interlock System cuts off the gas supply if the fan fails.Pipework & Tightness
We perform a rigorous tightness test on the commercial gas pipework to ensure there are no leaks, even under the high pressure of a catering environment.Insurance Validation
Without a valid CP42 certificate, your business insurance is likely void. In the event of a fire or accident, you would not be covered. We provide the proof you need.

Catering Regulations
FAQs: Commercial Kitchen Safety
Commercial catering rules are much stricter than domestic ones. Here are the answers to the questions restaurant owners ask us most.
The CP42 is the official Gas Safety Record for commercial catering establishments. It proves that your gas appliances, pipework, and ventilation/extraction systems have been inspected and are safe to use.
An Interlock monitors your extraction fan. If the fan breaks or is turned off, the Interlock automatically cuts off the gas supply. This is a mandatory legal requirement for most modern commercial kitchens to prevent fume build-up.
Yes. We can inspect mobile catering units (food trucks/vans). However, please let us know when booking, as this falls under a slightly different category (CMC1) than a fixed kitchen.
Just like domestic properties, commercial catering gas safety checks must be carried out every 12 months by law.
